It's already over!!

I did it. I finished the entire course. What an eye opener. I learned a lot of stuff about the things you can get and create using the web. I also picked up some great new sites too.

I want to say thanks to Tom for all of his work on this. I really enjoyed going through the lessons and discovering new things. I know you put a lot of work into this and I for one really appreciate it.

As far as my MP3 player goes, I will probably use it for music only at least at first. Maybe that will help me get motivated to start up on the cardio workout and stay with it. I hate commercials so this would be the perfect way for me to pass the time on that oh so hated treadmill. Thank you to the administration for giving us such a great reward for participating.

Copyrights

I think that the copyrights should apply to on-line material as they do to movies and music sold in the store. The artists and creators should be able to get some type of compensation for their work. Granted since they are not having to provide the CD and cover art, etc. they should not get paid as much. I really like the idea of paying a monthly fee and being able to download all the music you want to any type of media you like. It just seems like it is almost impossible to track things on the Internet and make sure everyone involved gets their fair share of the cut.

Flickr

I posted my first picture ever on Flickr today. It was cool to be able to see everyone elses' pictures of OCLS. It was interesting to see who posted pictures of staff and who posted picture of their department/branch without staff.

So far, my experience with Learning 2.0 has been great. I have learned about things I have never heard of and about things I have heard of , but never really knew what they were. I was even able to help some of my co-workers with some of the lessons. I must admit though, I still have a lot to learn. Maybe new lessons could be posted as new things are developed. I know it would benefit me to be able to "keep up with the times".

Lesson #7

I liked the Catster website. Looking at pictures of other cats is always fun for me, especially if they are doing something silly.

I liked the Puzzle Player website as well. Maybe I can get in a quick puzzle during a break or lunch.

As for the adventure, I found some really cool blogs on needlework and some great sites with free patterns.

This was a fun lesson.

On-line databases

I really like to on-line databases list that we have. When I am looking for something on the web I like to be able to get results as soon as possible. The list gives me an easy way to look at sites that will most likely give me the information I am looking for without having to use a lot of time searching.

On a side note, the Mooch site is cool. I have sometimes had to purchase a book that the Library cannot get for me and that book turns out not to be so good, in my opinion. It would be great to be able to trade those with someone for another book that I am not able to get through the Library or for one I loved so much I want to add to my own personal library.

pandora.com - check it out

I am really not into watching the silly videos that appear on MySpace and YouTube. Is it that people just don't have anything better to do with their time?? I am not much of a slap stick comedy person anyway so maybe that is why I don't get much out of it. I also don't really understand why anyone would want to keep a MySpace page full of personal information that can be used against you in the future. Everyone seems to want to share everything about themselves with everyone and I am just not that kind of person. Some things are better kept secret. Oh well, to each his own.

One of the sites I did like and actually learned about from a friend a few weeks ago is Pandora. What a great way to find new music in the same genres I listen to. Too bad it is not something we can listen while working. That would be lots of fun. Maybe someday.... Anyway, I highly recommend checking it out so you can always have the music you love right at your fingertips. The site address is www.pandora.com. It won first place in the seomoz 2007 Web 2.0 Awards. I love it.

Lesson #3

Today I completed lesson #3 and it was so cool. I have been looking for information regarding learning a language that is no very common and by using Grokker's to search for it I found sites and didn't see before. It limited the number of sites to precisely what I needed. I wish I would have known about this before. My RSS sites are:About CatsLibrary LeaderMTV NewsNew York Times Book ReviewYahoo NewsI am a tactile learner and learn best when I can have a hands on experience. I am also a visual learner, but prefer to be able to do it while listening/reading. So far Learning 2.0 has been a great experience for me. I am able to read and have a hands on experience at the same time. It can't get much better than that.

My First Blog

This is the first time I have created a blog about anything. It's kind of scary considering its out there for anyone to look at. I am trying to be very careful about what I say because I don't want it to be used against me in any way. Because of this, I will probably try to be as general as possible. Maybe after doing it for awhile I will get more comfortable with posting things.
